The construction of the Sidi Rached bridge was launched in 1907 for a total amount of three million francs. The project is entrusted to Mr. Georges Boisnier, specialist in large bridges and new chief engineer.
Made of dressed stone, this bridge, in three curves, is 447 meters long. It rests on 27 arches, 13 of which have an opening of 8.80 meters, one of 30 meters and the widest of 70 meters crosses the Rhumel at a height of 105 meters. Its width is 12 meters.
When it was built, it was the tallest stone bridge in the world.
The Sidi Rached bridge was inaugurated on April 19, 1912, at the same time as the Sidi M'Cid suspension bridge, at the other end of the gorges.
This bridge connects the city center to the station area, and provides access to the road going south towards Kroubs, Batna, Biskra.
