Football World Cup in the United States USA 1994
The Football World Cup is, after the Olympic Games, the largest global sporting event. Due to the very strong popular enthusiasm that football arouses on five continents, the quadrennial meeting of the best national selections is awaited and followed by billions of people around the world.
Since its advent in 1930 based on an idea by Jules Rimet – the first trophy designed, won definitively by Brazil in 1970, will bear his name – the Football World Cup, also called the Mondial, has continued to gain in popularity and notoriety, to the point of interest in countries which, until then, had little or no interest in what is commonly called the king sport.
This is how the United States of America, whose popular sports are basketball, baseball and American football, applied for the organization of the 1994 World Cup. The members of the congress of the International Football Federation granted it to them, seduced by the financial benefits that this edition would inevitably generate in a country where marketing is religion, but also by the prospect of popularizing the practice of football in the United States.
In addition to being organized for the first time in a country whose people are not football fans, the event will be historic, since it is the last edition of the World Cup with the formula of 24 participating selections. The overall capacity of the stadiums is the largest offered so far.
