Lite-eroded sandstone
Detrital sedimentary rock, very widespread and often presenting very clear bedding (beds: thin layers).
Sandstones are the consolidated facies of sands.
They differ from each other either by their cement or by their secondary minerals.
This cement was deposited by infiltration water and it can be siliceous, sometimes calcareous (effervescence with cold acids), dolomitic (effervescence when hot), ferruginous (brown or reddish), glocaunious (green) or clayey.
Sandstones can be used as abrasives, certain porous sandstones are used as filters.
