20th Anniversary of the World Tourism Organization UNWTO
In 1995, the 20th anniversary of the creation of the World Tourism Organization will be celebrated, which in 1976 was designated the executing agency of the United Nations development program.
The UNWTO, of which Algeria is a member, is an intergovernmental organization responsible for the promotion and development of tourism throughout the world. Aware of the role played by tourism in economic and socio-cultural development and its contribution to the friendship of peoples, our country devoted itself immediately after its independence and especially after the recent provisions on investment to developing its traditions of welcome and hospitality. In addition to a varied climate, allowing the practice of tourism throughout the year, nature has endowed Algeria with an exceptional variety of sites and landscapes.
Strange winters where vacationers swim in Tipaza while others ski on the Chréa mountains. Astonishing mountains of Djurdjura, Aurès and Ouarsenis where the cedar rewards hikers with its freshness at the height of summer. Then comes this Algeria, the most magical perhaps, that of the South with a sea of dunes in El Oued, as in Béchar, its stony plateau in Ghardaïa and its lunar mountains in Tamanrasset.
With its geographical and human contrasts, Algeria is a promise of astonishment. It offers the traveler a little tour of the world by introducing him to the Andalusian grace of Tlemcen, the freshness of Switzerland in the mountains of Kabylie and New Mexico in Hoggar.
Apart from its natural beauties, Algeria also has archaeological remains of very high interest. This land of Islam, which has known multiple civilizations as multiple as they were radiant throughout the ages, has preserved indelible traces of each of them which are juxtaposed or intertwined to the great joy of tourists and researchers.
