The fight against climate change, energy saving and the development of renewable energies are all subjects of concern for Algeria, as for the world, at the end of the 20th century. Algeria is in a region where challenges in the development of water resources are already a reality for those responsible for the management of this commodity as vital as it is rare.
Aridity, associated with erratic rainfall, constitutes a major environmental challenge. The prospect of climate change in the country, like other regions of the world, is likely to aggravate the challenges in terms of water resources development and force the country to improve livelihoods. The potential scale of these challenges and constraints has been clearly identified by public authorities in order to develop concrete strategies to deal with them.
Algeria has been working for several years to develop a long-term program whose main aim is to emphasize the concrete measures to be taken which will serve as the basis for a coherent environmental policy and will take into account the needs for adaptation to climate change in the region.
Through its incessant efforts to protect the environment, Algeria has set itself the overall objective of strengthening its capacities so that a growing body of specialists can implement climate change adaptation policies on the ground. Added to this approach is fruitful cooperation initiated with foreign countries and international institutions to strengthen capacities.
