The Common Snipe (Gallinago gallinago) is a species of bird in the Scolopacidae family. Snipe is a diminutive of woodcock whose name is taken from the Latin word "beccum" derived from Gaulish (the name corresponding to beak in classical Latin being "rostrum").
This bird measures 25 to 27 cm in length with a wingspan of 37 to 45 cm and a mass of 80 to 120 g.

Its maximum longevity is 12 years.
