Melanargia galathea lucasi

It is a beautiful butterfly with a wingspan of 50 to 60 mm. Its wings have large yellowish-white spots bordered by black lines. Adults appear in June-July on the Tell Atlas between 1,000 and 2,000 m altitude. Their caterpillars live on grasses. The species from Algeria are smaller in size than the butterflies from Morocco.
