1st Anniversary of Aéropostale
The Post and Telecommunications Administration has, among other responsibilities, the delicate mission of delivering postal mail. This operation of routing correspondence from the deposit office to the distribution office is carried out using existing means of transport and observing a certain number of requirements such as regularity and speed, schedules well adapted to the needs of the services and the security of the shipments.
Domestic postal delivery covers a vast territory covering an area of 2,381,741 km2 where the distance between extreme points sometimes exceeds 2,000 km. To ensure the transport of postal items, the Post and Telecommunications Administration uses railways, automobiles and planes. In addition to the means of land and air transport already in service and with the aim of improving the routing and distribution of mail, a new service called Aéropostale was launched in 1996.
This new service consists of the exclusive delivery of mail and postal packages on board aircraft operated by the company Air Algérie and chartered by the Post and Telecommunications Administration. In a first phase, this service, which concerns northern cities, includes two daily rotations from Algiers to the east and west of the country with seven and five stopovers respectively and will be gradually extended to the entire national territory.
Witness to a close partnership between the Post and Telecommunications Administration and the Air Algérie company, this eminently public service opens promising horizons for both parties as the Ministers of Posts and Telecommunications and Transport were keen to emphasize during the official signing of the convention on November 17, 1996.
