Algeria is undertaking work to carry out its fourth General Population and Housing Census. This census takes place in a context characterized by profound changes in national life. This is a large-scale operation for which the public authorities are providing particular interest and significant resources.
The next General Population and Housing Census will allow Algiers to have new data on the socio-demographic characteristics and housing conditions of households.
In fact, the census allows:
- to understand the demographic characteristics and the spatial distribution of the population.
- to assess demographic developments, social living conditions and the effects produced by the development policies implemented,
- to capture migratory flows
- to determine:
- the main characteristics of the housing stock and its spatial distribution,
- the volume and structure of employment and unemployment,
- the level of education, training and illiteracy of citizens,
- to create household and establishment files necessary for carrying out post-censal studies.
The results of the Census are valuable data for public authorities, for economic and social people as a whole. These data constitute an irreplaceable tool for forecasting and analyzing areas as varied as employment, the state of the housing stock, etc. The Census also allows Public Authorities to assess the progress made by society and to measure the efforts that remain to be made in all areas to improve the economic and social situation of the country.
