Dentex dentex (Dente)
It is known in Algeria under the names of Denti or Bousnane. It is a fish from the Sparidae family.
It is silvery gray with a green, purple, pink, golden or bluish reflection and speckled with small dark dots. Blue spot in the armpit of the pectorals. Frontal hump in older males.
Its average size varies between 30 and 50 cm and can reach 100 cm. It is found on sandy rocky bottoms up to 150 m, especially from 15 to 50 m. Breeds in spring. It feeds on fish and cephalopod molluscs.
It is caught by trawls, gillnets, bottom longlines, handlines and trolling lines.
