Referendum Restoration of Civil Concord
The referendum of September 16, 1999 on the reestablishment of civil harmony constitutes, without doubt, a significant date in the history of the Algerian nation.
Indeed, the overwhelming majority adoption by Parliament of Law No. 99-08 of July 13, 1999 relating to the restoration of civil harmony is part of an approach aimed at making the reconciliation of the Algerian people drawing on their ancestral values and traditions the first priority. The involvement of the Algerian people in this phase of its history is more than imperative and inevitably requires broad popular support capable of facing the great challenges awaiting the country. The Algerian people understand the importance of this law, the scope of a process and the meaning of an approach for the achievement of peace.
The achievement of civil harmony and the restoration of peace constitute only the preamble of a work which is structured around a number of actions whose fundamental objectives are the rehabilitation of the State and the consolidation of its institutions, economic recovery and the return of Algeria to the international scene.
On September 16, 1999, Algeria will write a new page in its history allowing it to reconnect with its glorious past and begin the third millennium in a position of strength.
