Orchis papilionacea. Perennial plant 10 to 40 cm, glabrous with entire ovoid tubers; linear lanceolate leaves, green, scarlet red flowers, granules in an oval spike fairly loose panciflora: bracts, pink, multi-veined, protruding from the ovary, external divisions of the perianth lanceolate oval, free, connivent in an elongated helmet, a little spreading at the top; lip large, longer than the helmet, simple, spreading, suborbicular or oval, narrowed at the base, striated fan-shaped, crenate crisp at the edge; spur directed downward, a little shorter than the ovary, is found in grassy places of the Mediterranean region in April-June.
