Orchis provincialis balbis. Perennial plant 15 to 30 cm, glabrous with entire ovoid tubercles, oblong lanceolate leaves, not dilated below the top, spotted with brown, pale yellow flowers, quite large, 6-20 cm in an oval spike then elongated loosely; lower bracts trinerved beyond the ovary, the others shorter, outer divisions of the perianth obtuse, the lateral ones spread out, the upper and the two lower ones connivent; lip folded in two, uniform yellow punctuated with purple, three-lobed, with slightly uneven and crenate lobes; ascending horizontal, cylindrical, club-like spur equaling the ovary. Grows in woods and grassy hillsides of the Mediterranean region in April-May.
