Fibula (tabzimt) of the Aures
The Aurès region, a mountainous massif in the north-east of Algeria, has an important heritage of popular arts and crafts that is as rich as it is varied.
This thousand-year-old heritage extends to several areas of production, including jewelry: a specialty particularly appreciated by the female population.
Like those of other rural regions, the traditional Auresian jewel is made of silver, but is distinguished by the use of glass, red and green, cut in the shape of a rose, with six facets, the most used techniques are those of openwork cutting from the plane and the supported filigree (the filigree motifs are welded onto a plate in plane).
Fibula (tabzimt)
The decorative plate of this fibula, entirely molded and not worked by hand as was the case with certain fibulas, presents a decoration of cut-out flowers and series of recesses. The center of the flower and the band located at the base of the edge serrations protrude.
