World Children's Day
Like all countries in the world, Algeria celebrates World Children's Day on June 1st each year. This celebration recalls the objectives defined in the International Convention on the Rights of the Child adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on November 20, 1989, meeting on the occasion of its 44th session. Since this date, World Children's Day is now dedicated to bringing together and taking stock of all the actions deployed for the benefit of children and their well-being. Like other nations, Algeria is concerned about respecting the rights of all its children. For this, numerous programs have been implemented, consisting of guaranteeing the child a good start in life, quality education, monitored and protected health, as well as the right to develop their natural abilities to fully flourish and become a responsible citizen, capable of contributing to the building of a modern society. The government and civil society are committed to activating the sources of solidarity for children injured by life, vulnerable, from deprived families or victims of violence. Among the various initiatives, the decision of the Ministry of Communication and Culture to devote the year 2002 to cultural and artistic action whose objective is to promote the culture of children, allow them to express their artistic and cultural potential and contribute to their development. It is with this in mind and to raise awareness of the promising talents of our children that two postage stamps are issued featuring drawings imagined and designed by children.
