This species, commonly called spurred bucarde, has an ocher shell with acute papillae whose radiating and projecting ribs number 19 to 23, they have rows of spines connected together by a low median keel. The size of this shell can reach 10.5 cm.
The bivalve Acanthocardia aculeata is located on the Algerian coast on the coarse detrital, sandy or silted bottoms of the infra-littoral and circalittoral levels up to a depth of 125 meters.
