The People's Republic of China was one of the first political supporters of fighting Algeria. Indeed, while the Algerian people were fighting to regain their independence by leading a liberation struggle, the official authorities in Beijing and the provisional government of the Algerian Republic decided to establish diplomatic relations between the two countries on December 20, 1958.
Today, Algeria and China are celebrating on December 20, 2003, the 45th anniversary of the establishment of official relations which in 45 years of existence have undergone a great evolution which means that the two countries have now become true partners at the bilateral and international levels.
During this period, Algeria and China have developed strong ties of solidarity, cooperation and partnership for the greatest benefit of the Algerian and Chinese people.
The state visits made to Algiers by President JIANG ZEMIN in October 1999 and to Beijing in October 2000 by President Abdelaziz BOUTEFLIKA were high points in the development of bilateral relations.
The numerous visits and meetings between Algerian and Chinese officials have made it possible to establish a significant flow of exchanges in the fields of economy, trade, health, culture and higher education.
Given the excellent relationships built over these 45 years, China has undeniably become one of Algeria's main Asian partners.
The years to come should undoubtedly strengthen this momentum and bring Algerian-Chinese relations to the level of the potential of the two countries and the aspirations of their peoples.
