Mosaic of Ulysses (IV C AD)
Mosaic found in Cherchell and stored in the old town museum.
It covers the walls of a pool measuring 2.60 m x 0.60 m x 0.98 m. The main scene is a famous episode of the odyssey, canto 12: the meeting of Ulysses and the sirens.
The front and back of Ulysses' boat are very raised; two companions of Ulysses are represented in full length, they surround the hero who has his hands tied behind his back.
On the shore stand three mermaids with bird legs.
