Olympic Games Athens 2004
In ancient Greece, the small town of Olympus celebrated games at the end of which the winner received the Olympic crown. Every four years, the Greeks were invited to a real celebration where all the religious, cultural and sporting events known at the time were in the spotlight.
In 1896, the Olympic Games, which had disappeared for centuries, returned to the forefront of sports news. Greece, homeland, hosts the first edition of the modern Olympiad. The ancient tradition has just been reborn. However, it will be celebrated in different countries, which gives it an authentic universal dimension.
More than a century later, Athens once again hosts this global sporting event with the celebration of the 28th Summer Olympic Games.
In addition to their sporting and competitive nature, the Olympic Games are also a meeting point for all walks of life. Attached to their centuries-old ideals, they continue to uphold the principles of peace, solidarity and understanding between peoples. They are the crucible where all differences melt into a perfect symbiosis imbued with the spirit of sharing and exchange.
Algeria, a follower of the principles of peace and fraternity of the Olympic movement, is also preparing to participate in the 2004 Olympics in several disciplines, and make its contribution to this global celebration of sport and friendship between peoples.
