Length 40-42 cm, wingspan 75-80 cm. Similar sexes, overall ash gray with purple, green and purple reflections on the neck which also has white spots in adults only. At any age, the wing does not show any black spots, like the rock kiss, but has a white band that is very visible in flight.
The woodpigeon is a woodland bird. In addition to the sedentary population in winter, migrants from Europe come. The North African breed is little different and its behavior seems identical.
The woodpigeon is eclectic and can nest in an old abandoned nest of another species or even of mammals, but it sometimes builds a loose and light nest itself. Its laying takes place from May to June, it is composed of two plain white eggs, quite shiny, with a short oval, sometimes almost elliptical.
