1962 2007. In this first decade of the 21st century, Algeria, which has gone through multiple stages of its socio-economic and political development, is celebrating the 45th anniversary of its independence, an important milestone which marks remarkable achievements in terms of efforts at institutional renewal, reconstruction and economic and social development, and an opportunity to remember the first moments of sovereignty recovered at the cost of the greatest sacrifices. All the steps taken and the decisions taken are put at the service of strengthening and achieving sustainable development at a time when the country pursues its policy of economic openness and partnership with the large established economic groups.
In 2007, the public sector and the private sector are indeed two equivalent poles which participate in the same economic dynamic generating productivity and growth. The issue is the very one that was, from the start, the driving force behind all economic reforms, namely the creation of new wealth which complements, strengthens and possibly also constitutes a sustainable alternative to hydrocarbons.
In this momentum of reconstruction, the consolidation of the conditions for lasting peace continues to focus the attention of decision-makers, while social cohesion, favored by a policy attentive to popular expectations in terms of social measures and institutional reforms, is further strengthened.
It is through an incessant quest for balance between a desire to open up and that of offering all Algerians a dignified and prosperous life that the Algerian State works to root a culture which draws on ancestral values and which looks towards the future and the universal.
If it has the merit of perpetuating the memory of a collective emancipation unique in the world, Independence Day is also that of youth, the one through whom everything happens.
It is this same youth who gave everything to ensure that the colonial darkness disappeared, who are expected today to meet the challenges of tomorrow, including those of development, progress and prosperity.
