National Day
The craft sector celebrates, for the first time since independence, the national craft day set for November 9 each year by decree of April 23, 2007 of the Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises and Crafts.
This day, which will take place under the patronage of His Excellency the President of the Republic, is placed under the theme: “Craftsmanship: Authenticity and Innovation”. With the aim of perpetuating this theme, a national competition for the design and creation of a logo for this day was organized during the month of August 2007 and, given the proposal presented by Mr. MILOUDI Chihab, designer and ceramic craftsman, won the competition which meets the requirements of the national commission for the selection of works, particularly the allegory of the theme and the enhancement of the authenticity factor by the representation of the symbolism linked to traditional craft products. Indeed, this logo perfectly personalizes traditional Algerian craftsmanship through the symbols commonly used by artisans in the manufacture of products such as the diamond and triangles which are mainly found in jewelry, pottery, ceramics and carpets as well as the eight-pointed star which serves as the basis for Arab Muslim architecture and cabinetmaking and brassware products.
The artist took the allegory further by embedding these symbols in the center of a crescent which perfectly refers to the national emblem reflecting the belonging of this heritage to Algeria, people and nation.
Just as the design of the logo reveals a tendency pushed towards innovation which harmoniously enshrines the stylized reproduction of the symbolism.
