5th general population and housing census
The year 2008 will see the launch of the fifth General Population and Housing Census. The Algerian State attaches particular importance to this large-scale operation, the execution of which requires considerable human, material and financial resources.
The census is an invaluable source of information. It occupies a special place in the national statistical information system. It allows knowledge, at a very fine level of detail, of demographic growth, the social conditions of existence of the population and the effects produced by development policies as well as being able to anticipate future social needs in terms of education and health.
The results of the census are priceless data for the State, Local Authorities, Economic Agents and all national and international Institutions. They are very useful for forecasting and analysis work in several areas such as the question of employment and unemployment, demographic questions, education and training, housing and its characteristics.
Its purpose is to have reliable and good quality information as well as a battery of socio-demographic indicators necessary for the evaluation, implementation and monitoring of development policies and programs.
Its success depends, first of all, on the collaboration of the population and the responsible and effective involvement of Local Authorities.
