The Algerian national army represents one of the main powers in Africa and the Arab world. A worthy heir to the National Liberation Army, popular resistance and the fight led by the Algerian people, it has been known officially since the country's independence in 1962, under the name of the People's National Army. The latter brings together the commands of land, naval and air forces. The top of the military hierarchy ends with the Head of State, constitutionally supreme head of the armed forces and Minister of National Defense. The Armed Forces General Staff, designated by the Head of State, is responsible for the employment and preparation of troops for combat.
The National People's Army is made up of three main branches:
The Army: The Army is the main body of the People's National Army. Its role is to defend and safeguard the integrity of the national territory. Made up of several brigades and combat divisions, the army aims to join the two other forces, the air force and the navy, in terms of modernization and professionalization, of this milk, a large process has been started by the corps by acquiring new equipment of the latest generation. Modernization follows basic training at the level of national and international military schools and academies. The gold of the year 2007, the Algerian army had a workforce of 107,000 men in active service and more than 150,000 reservists.
The Air Force: The Air Force is the spearhead of the People's National Army and of Algeria. Its main role is to defend the national airspace against any attack on its integrity and to carry out relief, rescue and support operations during major disasters. Considered a professional force, the Air Force has a significant human and material system which allows it to brilliantly carry out its missions.
Created in July 1962 following the independence of Algeria, this corps has 480 aircraft and 14,000 men spread over 15 air bases.
The Algerian National Navy: The Algerian Navy has the essential role of monitoring and defending the national territorial waters against any foreign military or economic intrusion. To carry out its missions, this corps has high-ranking human potential trained in national and international naval schools. Thus, a workforce of 6,000 men is distributed across the various bases on the national coast. Since the year 2000, this branch of the army has engaged in a profound movement of professionalization and modernization, thus following the objectives assigned by the General Staff of the National People's Army.
