The city of Constantine, located in the north-east of Algeria, is characterized by a unique geography. Sitting on an enormous rock dug in the middle by the Rhummel ravine, it contains numerous bridges which were built to connect the two parts of the city. In addition to their practical aspect, these bridges are true works of art.
The Sidi Rached bridge
Construction work on the Sidi Rached bridge was launched in 1907 by Boisnier, a specialist in large bridges. The Sidi Rached bridge is a large impressive mass on the southern salient of the city. Established on 27 dressed stone arches including a central one with an opening of 70 meters and a height of 105 meters, it was during its construction one of the largest stone structures in the world, it measures 447 meters long and 12 meters wide. It connects the city center to the station area and provides access to the road going south. With its decorative construction, the Sidi Rached bridge majestically symbolized the city on postcards.
