Sidi Abderrahmane Mausoleum (Algiers)
Sidi Abderrahmane Ethaâlibi, whose real name is Abou Zeid Abderrahmane Ibn Mohamed Ibn Makhlouf Ethaâlibi, is an Algerian thinker and founding master of the Ethaâlibia school. He was born in the year 786 AH (1384 CE) in Oued Isser, in the wilaya of Boumerdès. During the multiple trips he made in search of knowledge and knowledge, first within the country, then to Tunis, Cairo and the holy places of Islam, he rubbed shoulders with great thinkers. After spending around twenty years of his life acquiring knowledge and teaching, Abderrahmane Ethaâlibi returned to Algeria where he was entrusted with the country's supreme office, but he preferred to devote himself to teaching and writing.
He died on 23 Ramadhan 875 (March 15, 1471) and was buried in the Thaâlba cemetery in Algiers where his mausoleum is located. He left more than ninety works related to religion. The mausoleum of Sidi Abderrahmane, located in Bab El Oued in Algiers, was built in 1696. It includes a cemetery where illustrious personalities are buried. In the dome of the mosque, with North African architecture, rests Sidi Abderrahmane Ethaâlibi, under a carved and gilded wooden shrine. The floor of the room is covered with carpets and the walls are covered with earthenware and ex voto. A high square minaret, recognizable from a distance, lined with arcatures and framed by earthenware bands, stands on a construction decorated with a cedar wood canopy. The mausoleum of Sidi Abderrahmane Ethaâlibi was classified as national heritage in 1987.
