2009 Presidential Elections
Algeria provides, once again, irrefutable proof of the establishment of a democratic era of rediscovered prosperity and peace. After the consolidation of the institutional structure and the rehabilitation of the role of elected authorities in the national development process, here comes a new stage marked by this presidential election, symbolizing both the continuity and sustainability of the State and the Republic as well as respect for the principle of alternation in power through the expression of popular will.
This election is also the fruit of the achievements of those which preceded it, which were able to establish the necessary credibility, the guarantees of regularity and transparency, and the freedom of expression and participation of all the sensitivities represented within society. This is what allowed, this time again, applications in number and quality which reflect great partisan support for the conditions of preparation and conduct of this election.
The electoral campaign lasted 19 days, during which the six candidates in the running were able to present their programs and highlight their differences in respective approaches, leaving it to the care and the popular will to express itself through the ballot boxes alone, the way and the voice of the majority which decides, irrevocably and sovereignly, who will be, for five successive years, the President of the nation from November 1, 1954.
