19th century Algerian vest (Museum of Oran)
The 19th century Algerian vest: it is a garnet-colored velvet vest with a height of 29 cm and a width of 76 cm. It is the typical model of 19th century Algerian costume. This vest has 10 buttons placed on either side of the bust with a low closure. The decorative patterns of this vest are mainly composed of stylized leaves and flowers and intertwined stems. An ornament in the form of a braid is worn at the level of the shoulder pads. The technique used to design this vest is that of “Medjboud”, an embroidery with gold thread.
It is kept at the Ahmed ZABANA National Museum in the city of Oran.
