Centenary of the University of Algiers
The University of Algiers will celebrate its hundredth anniversary this year 2009, which is the end of a long and exciting journey since its foundation in 1909 at the end of the Law of December 30 of that same year.
This high place of knowledge and knowledge has played a leading role in the training of generations of executives, experts and researchers who constitute the privileged actors of the socio-economic development of the country, its values and its aspirations. Likewise, students from this university distinguished themselves as great figures of fighting Algeria.
The creation of the University of Algiers was the culmination of several stages of development since the colonial period to date. Thus, from the transition from schools to faculties then to departments from which higher education training institutes are defined, we are today witnessing the return of faculties.
Marked at the beginning by the colonial imprint, higher education in Algeria underwent major reforms after independence, notably that of 1971 which introduced the national language into all disciplines at the same time as great development. In 2009, there were one million students in 56 universities in the country and, by 2015, there will be three million.
Today the University of Algiers is expanding its environment within the framework of cooperation agreements with other Algerian universities and partnerships with various universities and international organizations.
