The golden eagle is the king of diurnal birds of prey. Its powerful claws and sharp nails allow it to both perch and hunt prey which it dismembers with its hooked beak. Its wingspan of more than 2 meters makes it one of the largest birds of prey in the world. Its plumage is uniform dark with white spots on the wings and at the base of the tail. Its visual acuity allows it to spot its prey very high in the sky. Eagles hunt, generally in pairs, diving and flying at ground level to surprise their prey, but also in mid-flight where they capture large birds.
The nest is built of branches and grass with a moss-lined bottom, in an inaccessible cliff. The clutch is 2 eggs, the incubation lasts 45 days.
