Sidi Ali DIB-SKIKDA Mosque
Skikda is a city in eastern Algeria whose hydrocarbon export port constitutes a regional development center and a main element serving the Algerian economy. Known since Antiquity, Skikda prides itself on preserving historic sites, monuments and buildings.
The Sidi Ali DIB mosque was dedicated to one of the wise men of Skikda who devoted his life to the teaching of the Koran until his death in 1828. It has remained a symbol for the entire region and many Muslim scholars including Sheikh Abdelhamid Ben Badis have marked their passage in this high place of knowledge and cultural influence.
Major expansion and restoration work was initiated in 1987, giving it the appearance of a large 3,800 m2 building whose prayer room can accommodate more than 7,000 faithful.
