It is a tree living in the Tindouf region, which has attracted the attention of botanists for several centuries. The argan tree is a thorny tree 8 to 10 meters high, with attenuated leaves.
Its silhouette is characteristic: broad, round crown, gnarled, tortuous and fairly short trunk, often formed of intertwined parts. The white to greenish-yellow flowers appear in May - June.
It is undemanding in terms of soil and is perfectly adapted to the aridity of south-west Algeria. Experiments with the introduction of the argan tree are being carried out in the Dahra region.
Argan oil is extracted from the fruit of the argan tree, which is used by the populations of this region for its nutritional and cosmetic properties.
