Butter pot
This butter pot is made of tinned red copper. It is composed of a base, a body with a serrated edge, and a lid with a point. Its decoration consists of floral and geometric patterns composed mainly of diamonds and lines, of very old local inspiration. The manufacturing techniques used by skilled coppersmiths are hammering and chiseling.
Dating from the 18th century and originating from Algiers, this butter pot figured prominently among a whole range of kitchen utensils such as trays, pots, coffee makers, teapots, sugar bowls, etc.
