Benyoucef Benkhedda
Benyoucef Benkhadda was born on February 23, 1920 in Berrouaghia (Médéa), after brilliant university studies he obtained a pharmacist's diploma which allowed him to settle in Blida.
He was active in the Algerian scouts then among the Muslim students, he then joined the Algerian People's Party (PPA). Arrested during the month of April 1943 for propaganda against the mobilization, he was released eight months later.
He participated in the PPA executive conference during 1946 before joining the central committee of the Movement for the Triumph of Democratic Liberties (MTLD) in 1947. He was in charge of the newspaper Free Algeria before being named secretary general of the organization in 1953.
Arrested again the day after the insurrection, he was released in April 1955, he immediately joined the FLN. He was elected member of the Coordination and Execution Committee (CCE) during the Soummam congress and political-military manager of the autonomous zone of Algiers.
He ensures liaison between the CCE and all the wilayas as well as the external delegation. After the arrest of Ben M'hidi, Ben Khedda left Algiers in March 1957 and returned to Tunis in the company of Krim Belkacem. He then chaired the FLN delegation in London.
BENYOUCEF Benkhadda was appointed minister of social affairs, then president of the Provisional Government of the Algerian Republic (GPRA) in August 1961, replacing Ferhat Abbas.
BEN KHEDDA Benyoucef withdrew from political life to manage his pharmacy until his death on February 4, 2003.
