On December 1, 1961, the first news bulletin from the “Algérie Presse Service” agency was broadcast in Tunis, seat of the Provisional Government of the Algerian Republic (GPRA). Thus came to fruition the idea, in gestation since 1957, of providing the country with a media whose irruption on the international media scene was to confirm Algeria's determination to recover all its sovereignty.
The first information from the APS, grouped in daily bulletins crossed out in national colors, was brought to the attention of foreign media which, by taking it up, gave the Algerian cause a considerable echo throughout the world.
In June 1962, three months after the ceasefire (March 19, 1962), the APS editorial staff took up residence in the Casbah of Algiers, a center of resistance to the occupier, and the Agency then began the exciting adventure of construction. Thus, in 1963, it acquired a status giving it a public service mission and launched the telegraphic distribution of its information.
In January 1993, the agency transferred its headquarters from Ernesto 'Che' Guevara to Kouba and invested in the battle for new technologies. During the month of April 1995, it began the automated distribution of its information.
At the end of 1997, all customers (national and international press, institutions, economic operators) benefited from the reception of information by satellite.
The agency offers its clients around 500 news reports per day, written in Arabic, French and English, and photo reports covering different areas. It uses satellite links via three satellites and also has a WEB site dedicated to information and photos.
