In Algeria, a large part of the land located in semi-arid regions is occupied by the cultivation of cereals. Durum wheat occupies the largest useful agricultural area in the country. Among the 12 varieties of durum wheat currently in production, we distinguish:
Bousselam:
It is a new high-performance variety introduced in 2004. Bousselam wheat has alternate leaves, formed by a culm of 90 to 100 cm, bearing a white ear and a medium grain.
This winter variety is very hardy and remarkably resistant to cold, lodging and drought as well as various diseases. Its yield reaches 38 quintals/ha.
