Glycyrrhiza glabra - Ark el sous
Is a perennial plant of the Fabaceae family, with aromatic roots.
It is native to southern Europe, Asia and the Mediterranean basin.
It is a herbaceous plant measuring between 1m and 1.5 meters high. Its roots form rhizomes. It has large pinnate leaves composed of 9 to 17 leaflets, and small pale blue to purple flowers.
In medicine, licorice is used as a brain stimulant; licorice extract lowers cholesterol and blood lipid levels in people suffering from cardiovascular problems.
