Fiftieth anniversary of diplomatic relations between Algeria and Russia
The year 2012 marks the commemoration of half a century of Algerian-Russian relations, marked by friendship and fruitful cooperation. Indeed, three days after the conclusion of the Evian Accords and more than three months before the referendum which would establish the recovery of Algeria's independence, Russia, and in the loyalty of its support for the fight of the Algerian people, decided to establish diplomatic relations on March 22, 1962 with our country.
This anniversary, which this year doubles as the fiftieth anniversary of the recovery of our national independence, evokes a glorious page of the Algerian people who, through their fight and their heavy sacrifices, commanded the admiration of the world and represented a model of struggle for dignity and freedom.
Algerian-Russian cooperation, which began with the human dimension in the context of training, is beginning to diversify, thus two forums were held in 2010 and 2011, in Algiers, with encouraging results. Also, the organization of Algerian cultural weeks in Moscow and Saint Petersburg in 2010, and Russian ones in Algiers and Tlemcen in 2011, constitute promising prospects and strengthen the mutual knowledge of the two peoples.
Obviously, this dynamic in relations between the two countries is due to the action and determination of the leaders of the two countries, materialized in the strategic partnership, signed by Presidents Bouteflika and Putin in 2001, to give substance to exceptional cooperation between Algeria and Russia.
This anniversary requires us to both take stock and make a projection to strengthen historical roots and respond, while respecting shared values, to the changes that both countries have experienced at the start of the third millennium.
