50th Anniversary of Sonatrach
The creation of Sonatrach, on December 31, 1963, responded to the concern for mobilizing resources from oil revenues perceived very early as a driving force in the development of Algeria. Over the years, it has become a powerful element of national integration and economic and social stability and development.
The Sonatrach group is involved, as its name indicates, in the exploration, production, pipeline transport, transformation and marketing of hydrocarbons and their derivatives. It is also developing activities in petrochemicals, electricity generation, new and renewable energies, seawater desalination and mining.
Even today, Sonatrach remains a public company whose missions and activities are oriented towards the national interest. Its traditional mission is to manage and develop the national hydrocarbon mining domain with two major objectives: to cover the long-term national hydrocarbon needs and to finance the development of the nation through the provision of foreign currency. It also has a pilot role in the Algerian economy to satisfy national and international hydrocarbon markets; constitute a powerful industrial center integrating all its professions; ensure the development and therefore the sustainability of the company; participate in the recovery and redeployment of the national economy.
Over the course of half a century, Sonatrach has gradually secured its own professions; it has fully assumed its role as a company in the service of national development.
