In Algeria. In 1939, there were 28 regiments of Tirailleurs (16 Algerians, 4 Tunisians and 8 Moroccans). They represent 38.6% of the French infantry. The proportion of Indigenous people to French people is 73.4%. Career staff account for 70%. These are professional troops whose characteristics are ardor, exceptional physical resistance, discipline and allegiance to the leader. The regiment is made up of a headquarters, a regimental machine company (CRE), a non-rank company (C.H.R.) and three or four battalions.
