17th Ministerial Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement
The policy of Non-alignment is based on the fundamental principles of national independence, respect for the rights of peoples to self-determination, non-membership in a multilateral military alliance, and support for national liberation movements.
The history of the Non-Aligned Movement remains closely linked to that relating to the decolonization process, thus allowing the emancipation of a large number of third world countries which opted for an independent orientation and development, following the recovery of their independence.
The Movement, driven by a desire to resist all forms of exploitation, feeds on national aspirations for greater freedom, independence and equality.
Having become a Movement of international scope, bringing together two thirds of humanity, Non-alignment works towards the advent of fairer and more balanced international relations, responding to fundamental Human Rights.
Inspired by shared values, the Non-Aligned Movement has consolidated its roots in international relations, just as it has affirmed the accuracy of the strategic vision for future international issues, thanks to the political voluntarism of its Founding Fathers, in Third World countries.
Algeria's fruitful contribution to the process of building this political edifice of international dimension, testifies to its strong conviction and its unwavering commitment to the realization of the ideals of this Movement. It is with this in mind that the 4th NAP Summit, held in Algiers in 1973, adopted Algeria's initiative relating to the creation of a coordination mechanism responsible for the implementation of the NAP platforms and action programs.
The 17th Ministerial Conference of Algiers, under the theme: “Strengthened solidarity for peace and prosperity”, will be held in a context marked, at the international level, by significant political and economic changes which give it exceptional interest and scope.
This Conference attests to both Algeria's constant commitment to Non-alignment, just as it will offer Algerian diplomacy a new opportunity to work within the Movement, to strengthen its capacity for action and its status as a reliable and growing partner on the international scene.
