“World Postal Day” is celebrated on October 9 each year, in commemoration of the creation of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874, with its headquarters in the Swiss capital “Bern”. This date was declared “World Postal Day” during the Congress held by the Universal Postal Union in Tokyo in 1969.
A specialized institution of the United Nations (UN), the UPU, strong with its 192 member countries, constitutes the main forum for cooperation between the different operators and players in the postal sector around the world. Its mission is to define and set the laws and rules governing postal activity and to formulate recommendations to stimulate and promote both postal services and postal financial services, and to constantly improve their quality.
Also, "World Post Day" is celebrated by the organization, by member countries, of various activities including, philatelic events highlighting the official collections of postage stamps issued by postal administrations, open days at post structures such as mail sorting centers, postal establishments and postal museums. In addition to the organization of letter writing competitions and sporting and cultural activities. It is also an opportunity for Posts around the world to launch and present their new products and services.
As one of the member countries of the Universal Postal Union, EPIC Algérie Poste has always celebrated World Post Day since its declaration in 1969, through commemorative philatelic issues and by the organization of open days, thus allowing its clientele estimated today at 16 million customers of all categories, and the general public to discover up close the different services and services available in post offices and modernized thanks to optimal use of new technologies.
On the occasion of October 9, 2014, Algérie Poste issues a new, very symbolic postage stamp created by a talented painter and dedicated to World Post Day.
