The United Mexican States was one of the first countries to recognize the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria.
The government of this country and its people supported Algeria in its fight against colonialism and tirelessly supported the right of the Algerian people to self-determination.
Thus, the Mexican government voted in favor of the Algerian cause in 1955 so that it was included on the agenda of the General Assembly of the United Nations; just as he did not fail to support the Provisional Government of the Algerian Republic and the National Liberation Front in other international forums.
The first official visit of a Mexican delegation to Algeria after independence, on October 21, 1964, was an opportunity to lay the foundations for the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and to reiterate official support for independent Algeria.
