El Aâtiq Mosque of Ghardaia
This mosque was built in old K'sar in the commune of Ghardaia, it is located at the top of the city, its surface area is 3000m², it was founded by El Cheikh Ibrahim Ben Yahia - also known as: El Cheikh Baba Waldjema - in 444 AH 1053.
It was built with local materials, it is characterized by its simple architecture, its low arcades and the trunks of the palm trees serve as support for its roof, which gives it a specific appearance and provides worshipers with reverence and solemnity. It has undergone several expansions.
There is a women's prayer room on the west side of the mosque, with direct access from the street, where women can pray the five prayers and the Friday prayer, they can also listen to the lessons and recitation of the holy Quran.
It includes five Koranic schools (Mahdhara) which bear the name of their founders. Several venerable Sheikhs have succeeded one another at this mosque since its foundation. The latter marked history with their piety and veneration.
