Mouloud Feraoun born into a poor rural family on March 8, 1913 in upper Kabylia, Tizihibel, in the Daïra of Beni-Douala. HE attended the school there which took him to the EPS of Tizi-Ouzou then to the Ecole Normale of Bouzareah where he became a teacher. After practicing his profession as a teacher for almost a quarter of a century in Kabylia, the war of national liberation brought him to Clos - Salembier in 1957. Appointed inspector of educational social centers in 1960, he was assassinated by the OAS on March 15, 1962, 3 days before the ceasefire. He left around ten literary works including the 1955/1962 diary which recounts the day-to-day events of the Algerian War.
His novel The Poor Man's Son, which has had renewed interest since the 2000s (translation in the USA 2003, in Spain 2000, in Italic 2001,) will be published in Japan in 2015 and it has sold more than a million copies throughout the world.
