October 8 day of Algerian diplomacy
October 8, Algerian Diplomacy Day, is an important date in the history of Algeria and a symbolic landmark whose celebration coincides with October 8, 1962, the day when the first president of independent Algeria, the late Ahmed Ben Bella, raised the national flag in New York, headquarters of the United Nations.
The consecration of this date is recognition of the contribution of diplomatic action to the recovery of national independence, for its active participation in the concert of Nations and for its support and defense of just causes, in the service of peace and security in the world.
To commemorate this date, Algeria Post issued a postage stamp which represents the new headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs whose architecture is a perfect symbiosis between Arab-Moorish art and modern style.
