Arab Family Day
The Council of Arab Ministers responsible for social affairs approved the consecration of the date of December 7 of each year, “Arab Family Day”, in application of decision No. 230 taken in 1995 during its fourteenth session.
This day's announcement is intended to be a confirmation of the importance of preserving the family entity, as the core of society and one of the bases of development and social stability. It reflects an awareness of the importance of the social role that the family plays in the education of the individual, thus constituting the first line of defense and protection of society.
In this context, the Ministry of National Solidarity, Family and the Status of Women took the initiative of organizing on December 7, 2014 a day of study and information in the wilaya of Khenchela under the slogan: “Intergenerational and its role in the prevention of family cohesion” with the participation of professors and specialists in sociology, psychology and education, experts in the field of family as well as the local associative movement active in the area of family protection.
The interventions focused on:
- The reality of family relations in Algeria,
- The role of social cohesion and intergenerational relations in the preservation of family identity,
- Intergenerational and the transfer of values and principles,
- Intergenerational - religious approach,
- Social communication: reality and perspectives.
Emphasis was placed on this occasion on the need to encourage families to consolidate the culture of dialogue and communication between all members of the family and to raise awareness, those of them who are about to get married, on the need to preserve the social values specific to parental relationships, on the expansion of the values of tolerance and communication and the rejection of deviant behavior such as violence and family breakdown and thus guarantee the transfer of all these values to future generations.
