Red scorpion fish (Scorpaena scrofa)
Red scorpionfish, whose scientific name is Scorpaena scrofa, can reach a maximum size of 66 cm, it is common between 20 to 30 cm.
Its habitat is the rocky or muddy bottoms of the continental shelf and on Posidonia meadows between 0 and 370 m depth, especially from 20 to 100 m, the young especially in rocky areas and the adults in muddy areas.
Its reproduction takes place from May to August. It feeds on crustaceans, fish and molluscs.
In Algeria, it is not targeted by the various fisheries but is found in the landings of trawlers and small businesses.
