On December 18, 2007, the United Nations National Assembly adopted resolution 62/139 initiated by the State of Qatar and which declared April 2 World Autism Day.
Autism defines one or more progressive developmental disorders “PDD”, affecting the person in three main areas:
- Verbal or non-verbal communication disorders.
- Social relationship problems.
- Restricted interests and/or repetitive (stereotypical) behavior.
To celebrate this day, the Ministry of National Solidarity, Family and the Status of Women organized a national drawing competition, produced by children with autism cared for by psycho-educational centers for mentally handicapped children under the Ministry of National Solidarity, autistic children in special classes under the Ministry of National Education, autistic children cared for by Associations working in the field of autism; in order to produce two postage stamps included in the philatelic program for the year 2016.
A special commission was set up composed of representatives of the Ministry of Post and Information and Communication Technologies, the Ministry of National Solidarity, Family and the Status of Women and the School of Fine Arts to choose the best drawings received from 36 Wilayas.
