The Rio 2016 Olympic Games (Brazil)
After organizing the Football World Cup in 2014, the country of Samba will host the 31st Summer Olympic Games 2016 in Rio de Janeiro.
The city of Rio was elected on October 2, 2009 during the 121st session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) held in Copenhagen, Denmark.
These Summer Olympic Games will be the first to take place in South America. It will also be the first Olympic Games to take place in a Portuguese-speaking country.
The Games will take place from August 5 to 21, 2016 and more than 10,500 athletes will take part from 206 countries who will participate in this global sporting event.
These 31st Games will include 28 sporting disciplines, Algeria is participating with 60 athletes in 13 disciplines: Aquatic sports, athletics, rowing, boxing, cycling, fencing, football, gymnastics, weightlifting, judo, sailing, sports shooting, wrestling.
Since the first games of 1964, Algeria is its 13th participation, the best harvest in medals was at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games with five (05) medals (1 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronzes).
These Olympic Games will take place in 33 locations spread across 4 different sectors of the city, namely: Barra, Copacabana, Deodoro, and Maraca.
The logo of the 2016 Olympic Games represents three silhouettes of orange-yellow, blue and green (the colors of the Brazilian flag), holding hands in a circle, symbolizing union and movement. This logo is based on four pillars, each representing: “contagious energy, harmonious diversity, exuberant nature and the Olympic spirit”.
Its silhouette evokes Sugarloaf Mountain, a symbolic monument of the city of Rio de Janeiro.
